Emil graduated from the University of Stellenbosch in 2002. He obtained a Post Graduate Dental Diploma in Dental Implantology from the University of Western Cape in 2004, and successfully completed the International Qualifying Examination in the United Kingdom (UK) in 2005.

From 2006 to 2009 he was registered full-time at the University of Pretoria and obtained his dental specialist degree in Oral Medicine, Periodontics and Dental Implantology in 2009.

In 2010 Emil established the Periodontal practice in Newlands.

He is a Fellow of the International Team for Dental Implantology (ITI) and a member of the South African Academy of Esthetics.

He regularly lectures in the field of Periodontology and Dental implantology.
